Since 2006, Our Small World has had the privilege of working with so many extraordinary children, who have touched the lives of our foster parents and families. Here are some of their stories...
When Amanda and her two older brothers were placed with foster Paola Meza, she was 2 weeks old and already facing so many challenges in her short life. She was born prematurely, and was removed from the care of her birth family. She had developmental delays and her brothers were behind academically. Amanda is now an energetic, smart, outgoing six-year-old. Her brothers are happy, loving boys who are good students, excelling in the GATE program. Since reunifying with her birth father four years ago, Amanda, her father, and her brothers continue maintain a close relationship with “mom” Paola and her family. Paola babysits the children daily while their father works; the children have sleep-overs with Paola’s children; they celebrate birthdays and other special occasions together; they are all a family. Paola feels so blessed that the children were brought into her life six years ago. We think Paola and her family are a blessing to Amanda and her brothers as well!

Landon is a smart, energetic, and inquisitive second grader who loves Skylanders and playing with his family. His mom describes him as empathic and highly considerate of others’ feelings. He is aware when others are sad, and says prayers for those whom he learns are sick. Seven years ago, Landon was a 3-month old baby placed in foster care with Angel, a first-time foster parent, her partner, and her two sons. Immediately, Landon was embraced by this active, adoring family. He was given an extraordinary amount of love and care. Angel worked closely with Landon’s birth mother to help her regain custody. When his birth mother was unable to take the steps to care for Landon, she asked Angel to adopt him. Without any hesitation, Angel began the adoption process. Just before Landon’s 3rd birthday, he became an official member of the Diaz family!
